Bolesta Center, Inc. PDF Print E-mail

Bolesta Center, Inc. was founded in 1961 as the Robert McCord Oral School for the Deaf.  At Bolesta we teach children how to learn to listen through Auditory-Verbal Therapy. Our programs are for infants, preschoolers and school aged children with hearing impairments

At Bolesta, hearing impaired children are not taught lip reading nor use sign language. The approach represents a commitment to a lifestyle based on maximum use of and dependence on hearing.  This is a family focused program where the parents are taught strategies to maximize their child’s language learning potential at home and in their daily lives.

At Bolesta we offer a continuum of care to our families which includes Speech
Therapy and Audiological Services as well as monthly Parent Meetings that offer education as well as Parent Mentoring.

Because one learns to hear, one learns to speak, because one learns to listen, one learns the meaning and use of our spoken language.  Because one learns to use language, one becomes fully integrated into the hearing society. Children at Bolesta are not placed in special education or in self-contained classrooms for hearing impaired children .  Instead , they are taught to listen and talk so that they can be mainstreamed into a hearing community.

We accept most major insurances.  For those who are self-pay, fees are charged on a sliding scale according to income. No family is denied services due to inability to pay.
