Family Support and Resource Centers are warm and welcoming places right in your neighborhood where any individual or family can come as a regular part of their day to day life to engage in a variety of activities.
Family Support and Resource Centers are regionally located throughout Hillsborough County (Town and Country, Brandon, and in North Tampa) to meet the needs of families from all walks of life. Visitors are welcomed by friendly staff members and are encouraged to participate in programs and activities. All center driven services are provided at no cost to the participant. Community partnerships are at the heart of service and program delivery with an emphasis on child development, self sufficiency, and health/safety. The services and programs provided at each of the Family Support and Resource Centers are driven by input from participating families, who are part of Family Community Advisory Councils. Working together with staff and community partners, the Family Community Advisory Council plays a key role in the success of meeting the diverse needs of families. The Family Support and Resource Centers function with a strong collaborative partnership between the following community agencies: The Children’s Board of Hillsborough County, The Healthy Start Coalition of Hillsborough County, Bright Beginnings, The Children’s Home, Inc., The Child Abuse Council, and the St. Joseph’s Children’s Advocacy Center. All center functions are supported by Family Support Principles:
Staff and families work together in relationships based on equalityand respect.
Staff enhance families’ capacity to support the growth and development ofall family members – adults, youth and children.
Families are resources to their own members, to other families, toprograms, and to communities.
Programs affirm and strengthen families’ cultural, racial, and linguisticidentities and enhance their ability to function in a multicultural society.
Programs are embedded in their communities and contribute to thecommunity-building process.
Programs advocate with families for services and systems that are fair, responsive, and accountable to the families served.
Practitioners work with families to mobilize formal and informal resourcesto support family development.
Programs are flexible and continually responsive to emerging family and community issues.
Principles of family support are modeled in all program activities, including planning, governance, and administration.
