Federation of Families of Hillsborough County PDF Print E-mail

The Federation promotes that parents are the experts of their children and must be treated as equal partners through the planning and delivery of services for their children.

The Federation of Families is a national parent-run organization formed in 1989 as a grass roots initiative by parents to address funding, legislative agendas, treatment series, best practices and other national agenda that attempt to meet the needs of children with mental health, behavioral and emotional needs. The Federation promotes that parents are the experts of their children and must be treated as equal partners through the planning and delivery of services for their children. The Federation chapters are parent run chapters and boards. The activities primarily are support groups that offer emotional support and information to families, opportunities to break through isolation barriers that families may experience, assisting with transition issues that children with mental health needs often experience.

The Federation works with families and youth in Hillsborough County to engage the family voice/involvement component. We promote this involvement in Plant City, University Area, West Tampa, and the Town n’ Country neighborhoods of Hillsborough County.

We coordinate support groups and other functions through our Family Advocates, parents who are trained to serve as front line resources, support groups facilitators, mentors and community leaders. We offer local and national training to many parents to become community leaders for improving systems that work with SED youth. Most members seek support in the community support groups, others decide to do more and want to share their story, energy and knowledge with other families and the community.
