Easter Seals Child Development Center at East Henry is an inclusive, developmental preschool for children birth through five years old.
Easter Seals Child Development Center at East Henry provides services to 105 children who are birth to five years old with special needs. The center is open from 7 am to 5.30 pm and the children come to the center on a daily basis. Many of the children have special needs or disabilities, such as Down syndrome, spina bifida, cerebral palsy, autism, as well as other developmental delays. The center has seven inclusive classrooms where children with delays and disabilities play and learn with typical children of their own age. The ultimate goal of our services is to improve each child’s development to help them overcome challenges so they can learn and succeed in school.
Therapy Department: Therapy is offered at the center either during the child’s day or as an out patient service. Therapies include:
Occuapational Therapy: Occupational therapy improves children's fine-motor and visual-motor skills, memory, attention span and problem-solving abilities. Children learn skills such as dressing, eating, personal hygiene, writing and scissors skills. In addition, children work on sensory integration, dealing with spatial challenges, and feeding issues.
Physical Therapy: Physical Therapy improves a child's balance and coordination, strength, flexibility and endurance. Children learn skills such as crawling, walking, sitting and standing.
Speech Therapy: Speech Therapy improves feeding and swallowing skills, oral-motor skills and breathing support. Our trained therapists help children with language comprehension and expression, articulation, voice, fluency, attention, memory and problem-solving abilities.
Early Intervention: Early Intervention enhances the overall development of a child through play. Our interventionist helps children achieve their goals in cognitive, social/emotional, communicative, adaptive and physical development through developmental play and therapeutic activities. Family Support: A Social Worker works with each family to develop a family support plan that addresses each family’s unique challenges. The social worker concentrates on each family’s strength and helps them to accomplish goals that facilitate the family’s ability to care for their child. The social worker also provides families with information on appropriate services and support available in the community.
Easter Seals Child Development Center maintains child care accreditation. The center also provides services under contract with the Head Start Program, offering three Pre-K classrooms serving 47 children.
